Collective Leadership Framework
The process through which individual leadership capability is translated into collective effectiveness and organisational performance.
Developed through six interconnected capabilities:
1. Collective sense making
Developing a shared understanding of the environment, context and challenges.
Questions:
-
Are we working from the same assumptions?
-
Do we have a shared understanding of what's happening and why it matters?
-
Can we integrate different perspectives into a coherent picture?
2. Collective judgement
Interpreting situations, balancing competing demands and determining the most appropriate course of action.
Questions:
-
Can we balance competing priorities?
-
Are we thinking as enterprise leaders rather than functional representatives?
-
How do we make difficult trade-offs?
3. Collective decision-making
Reaching decisions that integrate diverse perspectives and serve the organisation as a whole.
Questions:
-
How do we make decisions?
-
Is the decision process clear?
-
Do we reach decisions everyone understands?
4. Collective commitment
Creating shared ownership of decisions beyond the meeting
Questions:
-
Are we genuinely committed?
-
Will we represent this decision consistently?
-
Do we own it collectively?
5. Coordinated action
Translating decisions into aligned behaviour across functions and organisational boundaries.
Questions:
-
Does action happen?
-
Are responsibilities clear?
-
When ownership is shared, do things still move?
6. Collective learning
Reflecting on outcomes, adapting and continually improving how the leadership team works together.
Questions:
-
Do we reflect on how we're working together?
-
What are we learning?
-
How are we improving our collective capability?
Organisations don't achieve their goals through individual leaders alone.
They achieve them through the collective capability of the leadership team.
